GOAL: In 7th grade, students will begin to meet the requirements of Checkpoint A of the New York State Syllabus in Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing and Culture in a foreign language. Students will complete the requirements of Checkpoint A in 8th grade. By passing this course and a designated exam, students will receive 1 high school credit of Spanish before they enter 9th grade! The High School Level 1 course is an accelerated version of the 7th and 8th grade level 1 courses.
OBJECTIVES: Students will become proficient in the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Spanish and cultural awareness. Geography, customs, foods, holidays and other cultural information will be introduced. Students will communicate in Spanish in common, day-to-day activities by providing and obtaining information, expressing feelings and emotions, exchanging opinions and socializing. Students will understand authentic Spanish documents, literature and music. Daily practice and exposure to the language will improve your language skills.
Supply List: A 3 ring binder with vocabulary sheets and units in order, 25 sheet protectors, a 3 subject notebook, blue or black pens, pencils, Spanish dictionary
Homework / Assignments: Will be assigned every day. Please copy the assignments from the board as you enter class each day. The assignments will be posted under “Tarea” – “homework”…
Tu Cuaderno: Your notebook must be divided into 4 sections:
*Silla Caliente (Mondays/Fridays)
*Verbos (Tuesdays)
*Toca la Campana (Wednesdays/Thursdays)
*Diálogos (Mondays/Fridays)
Students will record a daily word/phrase in their agendas everyday!
Grading: 50% Tests/Quizzes
25% Homework
25% Class Participation (oral presentations and class activities)
Classroom Expectations: ☺Students are expected to be on time for each class
☺ Students are to quietly copy down the daily word and homework for
each day in their agendas as soon as they are seated
☺ Students will complete the bellringer each day at the beginning of class
in the appropriate section of their notebook
☺ Students are to be prepared for class daily with homework,
binder/notebook, writing utensil and positive attitude!
☺ Students must participate daily in classroom activities and listen when
others are speaking
☺Students are to be RESPECTFUL to everyone in the classroom
☺ NO GUM!
ABSENCES: If a student is absent, they should see me as soon as they return to make arrangements for completing the assignments they missed. Students must make up all assignments within 1 week of returning to class.
